Fall 2010 Cover Photo

This Issue's Cover:

Eli Feliciano, age 13, drew this self-portrait at the Dragonfly Art Studio program. He has studied painting, sketching, Japanese art, folk art and other techniques at Dragonfly after-school and summer programs since he was 6 years old. “Most of the techniques I’ve learned came from Oceanna,” he says, referring to Dragonfly director Oceanna Holton, who was traveling in Turkey while Eli was having his photo taken outside Warehouse 21. “She travels to other countries learning about art and brings what she learns back to Santa Fe,” adds Eli’s mother Melodi Wyss-Feliciano. Eli just started his last year at the Fayette Street Academy, a private Santa Fe elementary/middle school. Photo by Ana June.

Tumbleweeds Café - This Issue's Topic

Link to Tumbleweeds Café Forum PageWELCOME! This fall on our website we’re offering something new! Along with posting a few articles from our print issue (and our calendar of family events and afterschool program directory) we invite YOU, our print readers and web visitors, to start sharing your thoughts in our new forum, the Tumbleweeds Café.  Along with each new print issue we will introduce a new topic for discussion.  This Fall, we want to hear what you think on the theme of children and the ARTS.

You’ll find suggestions from teachers, parents and others in the community about some of the books, websites and other resources they love and use; a Wish List for materials they need in your classroom (or those they have to share), and comments about the importance of art in the classroom, home, or community; teaching philosophies and techniques, and reactions to local or national events affecting art education.
